What it does
This tool performs a comprehensive scan of selected folders and their subfolders, ensuring that all your existing files contained in them are indexed and easy to locate using Starling’s variety of tools. It ensures that nothing is lost or overlooked in the scanning process.
It records each file relevant time data, location, and meta data keywords. If the file format is supported, it also indexes the file’s content for keywords.
How it helps
By scanning and indexing your folders, Starling allows you to easily search and retrieve old or forgotten files. You can also "time-travel" through your indexed data to easily retrieve past files, making file recovery simple and efficient.
How to
- Choose a folder containing files you want to index.
- Click the blue “Scan & Index” button.
- Starling will scan the folder and its subfolders, indexing all files it comes across. This may take several minutes, depending on folder structure and hardware.
- A blue dot means that a folder or file is tracked
- A grey dot means that a folder or file is indexed
- A green dot means that a file is monitored
- An orange dot means that a file has untracked changes
In the tracked card you can inspect any changes to the file.
