Control: what we used to have
Your data is priceless. The data which you create through your efforts are truly valuable, hence it does not make sense to treat it carelessly.
Before the cloud entered our lives, file control, management and categorization was concentrated on the device we had locally. This device had a filing capability which was modeled after what was back then the common sense: Physical filing cabinets with drawers and folders containing files. Then there was a gatekeeper whom had responsibility over the correctness of the filing and the cabinet’s overall integrity.
The PC made us gatekeepers of our own personal filing cabinets. Due to the low-intensity digitalization of our lives (in the 80s & 90s) this gate keeping function was upheld. However, the Internet started to have an impact; since slowly but steadily data started to find its way into our filing cabinets which circumvented the gatekeeper.
